a) Environemental scanning: Mentioned in #4, visiting area coffee shops to keep up with the competition. One trend I have noticed is that people like bringing their dogs EVERYWHERE with them. Have a dog friendly coffee shop that offers water bowls, dog treats...Also cater to families, have outdoor seating and cheap entertainment for children like coloring books, drinks for children other than coffee...All while having a seperate (quiet) area that will be for people that are actually trying to study.
b) Competitive advantages: One thought would be to have an iphone/smart phone app so people can place their orders and keep a credit card on file to make ordering easy. Offer coupons through the app as well.
c) first mover advantages: I'm thinking that we may want to go more with the close second group so that we are not spending a great deal of money on an idea that may not work. Once an idea seems to work, we can build upon that without investing a lot of money.
- Environmental scanning
ReplyDelete- Regularly scan competitor websites and blogs to learn of new products offerings and strategies and to read about what competitors customers are saying, both good and bad.
- First mover’s advantage
- To gain a competitive advantage
- Internet use for take out ordering
- Customer satisfaction surveys/feedback and ideas on how we can improve. Find out what customer’s like and dislike about their experiences. Encourage customers to provide feedback and ideas based on some type of reward system.
- Create a blog for customers.
One other thought about using IT to gain a competitive advantage:
ReplyDelete-Post recipes of specials on website for about two weeks and include info on the nutritional benefits and info on how to prepare and/or obtain the most benefits from the foods.
Environmental scanning
ReplyDelete- visiting coffee shops throughout our target area and expending elsewhere to see what type of services and products the competition is offering
-checking out competitor’s web sites if any, and reviews on the internet
First-mover advantage
Competitive advantage
-focus on current hot spots or events happening in our area. Find a link between our coffee shop and current event organizers to attract the same crowd who comes to the event to our coffee shop (than work on gaining their loyalty in the future)
-lots of our target audience will be WFU students and alums, people attending local basketball and football games. Have a small Deacon section in the shop that offers Daemon Deacon cups, coffee holders, etc. few other gift items
-maybe even have one type of coffee named “Daemon Deacon Coffee”. Create a blog on our website where people can put down their ideas for what Daemon Deacon coffee should taste like, something like “Create your own DD coffee”.
Ideas I liked:
-internet takeout orders availability
-Iphone order availability
-customer satisfaction survey/feedback
-Post recipes of specials on website for about two weeks and include info on the nutritional benefits
Competitive advantage - We could have classes for 1 hour between 10 - 11 am once a month on latte creme designing. This is a niche art, how to make patterns on hot latte. This could be a source of revenue and publicity for the coffee shop.
ReplyDeleteHave a set of specialty coffee from various countries. We could market this as 'store which sells international coffee'. I am in the process of collecting some of the international specialty coffee names.
We could have competition for receiving novel recipes, and reward them.
Environmental Scanning -
Using IT - We would need 1 - 2 computer terminals. The reason for 2 is to have a backup if technology fails us at some point and we have a business backup plan.
ReplyDeleteThis will store recipes, customer information, sales information, upcoming events etc. Backup of information will be taken every week into the 2nd computer as well from this Database.
A card will be provided to all regular customers, if you buy 11 coffees, the 12th one is free. A hole will be punched on every purchase. Valued customers will be given a free coffee on special occasions, or coupons to classes at 20% off etc.
I like the idea of international coffee and having these classes on patterns
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of making the cafe a pet friendly business. this is a new trend that is getting some popularity in many businesses.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand you dont want to give the custmer too much knowledge about how to make a better creme or latte, this could cause you to lose customers since you will have little or no value to them anymore
