Task 4: Question 2

  1. My answer would read as:

I thank you for your comments as we always look for ways to improve. We understand that some of our customers may not approve of children in our coffee shop but we also have a large group of customers that really enjoy being able to bring their children in for Story Hour. We have scheduled this at a time of day when most people are still at work but I realize that not everyone has a “9-5” work schedule. In order to keep our business thriving, we strive to accommodate as many different types of customers as possible. Although we value the opinions of each customer, we can never please everyone but will always welcome suggestions as to how we can improve.

As for the second part of the question, I’m not sure if this is a matter of an ethical question or not. This sounds like an opinion to me. To be honest, I really would not take this too seriously unless the majority of our customers felt this way. In our mission statement, we would address our customer base which would include children for this scenario.

  2. Totally agree with Jane's response to the customer. Very well said Jane.

I think story-time is a great way to allow Mom's to socialize and enjoy thier favorite latte and pastry at a time when business at the cafe is probably slow.

I do not think the customers viewpoint is ethical and don't foresee that the cafe will need to change in response to this comment. Other than story-time, I do not see parents staying too long with small children. I also think allowing children in the cafe, especially those who are 10-11 or older, is a good way to keep the business growing.

  3. I personally would probably not include this whole “story hour” in our cafĂ©. It kind of feels like we are trying to appeals to many different groups of people. Doing this will definitely result in having few complaints.
But if this is the only complaint about this scenario that comes in, I would not take it seriously and would probably respond somewhat in the same way Jane did. This would be an issue we attack if all of a sudden many people start complaining about this.

  4. I agree with Jane's response. It is best said.
From the view point of customer, he has the right to air his opinion.
'Every man has a right to be wrong over his opinion but no right to be wrong on his facts' So going by that, the time is stated correctly. This post also serves as a advertisment for those moms' who would like to bring their children in at this time.
We also have a silent room for those customers who prefer silence when they read or work on their computer so we will request this customer to use the silent room when he visits us next time, by making a note against his name on the database.
